Final portrait painting for Oppa

Posted by Ava Larkin on Saturday, December 1, 2012, In : Travels in South Korea
So, as a thank you for all the awesome things oppa has done for me I decided to paint his portrait in ink on watercolor paper.  He loved the pencil sketch I did, but it was too small and too rapidly drawn to warrant framing and hanging on his wall.  Today I spent half the day rendering this for him... hopefully he likes it!

Yo American Men! Why haven't you thought of this???

The other night oppa took Jeyong, Lee, Jordan, and me out to dinner for fresh BBQ'd eel.  First of all, I have to say the Japanese Unagi have NOTHING on how the Koreans serve eel up.  Seriously... KILLER!  Each of us were served at least half an eel, cut into bite sized morsals, baked to a crisp mouth-melting perfection and then drizzled with a light sweet plum sauce.  Yes.... yum.

Afterwards, oppa took us to a traditional Korean tea house where we had a variety of delicious herbal...

Princess Syndrome

Posted by Ava Larkin on Sunday, November 25, 2012, In : Travels in South Korea

So, Saturday I woke up with some serious stomach cramping and before I knew it I was all but running to the bathroom.  By noon I wasn't feeling any better, so I texted Jeyong (who just happens to work for a doctor) and he came over with an assortment of medicines and JUK (rice porridge).  Soon after my oppa texted me and asked how I was and I told him my tummy was sick.  Within 10 minutes he'd called Jeyong to find out what was going on and had hit the road to pick up more stuff for me.  Less...

Celebrating Thanksgiving in Korea Japanese American Guam style

Confused much?  Cuz I am LOL.  Actually, my Korean friend Mr. Choi asked to go out on another date and so, we rounded up Jeyong (One of my Korean male friends that speaks great English and I hang out with all the time) and Lee (my soju drinking buddy/partner in crime/sister in another life) and headed for Andong.  As most of you know I have a love for speed and things that go fast.  So, having been moseying around the countryside at speeds that would make my grandma wanna pull out her shotgu...

Chuseok holiday continued... The Seoul-ful Ambulators

Posted by Ava Larkin on Friday, October 12, 2012, In : Travels in South Korea

When people come to Korea, there's a 75% chance that Seoul will be the first place they visit (and yes, I completely made that statistic up).  I'm sure you don't need me to explain the reason this may (or may not) be the case, since Seoul is the Capital of South Korea.  When I first arrived in SoKo, I flew into Incheon Airport, which is located to the west of Seoul.  In short, though I was IN Seoul, I saw nothing other than the view granted me from my bus seat window.  My point is, I wanted...

Jordan and I on the bus

So, the week went by without any hitches.  Towards the end of the week, Nina, Jordan, Jonah, and I realized we'd spent every evening together and were also planning on a trip to Daegu over the weekend.  I think it's safe to say, we've all become good friends LOL.

We celebrated Jordan's birthday in style with lots of drinking on his Korean birth day, a cake from the Paris Baguette, and another round of dinner and beverages on his American birth day :P.  Besides th...
